Michael Des Marais
Coming from a working-class background, nothing predestined him to this life as an artist. The desire to create was deep inside him since childhood. Shapes, colors, compositions crossed in his head. He wanted to share an emotion, an atmosphere, a vibration gently. His meeting with Léo Ayotte was the trigger. A few years later, following a tragic accident, he chose painting to express himself.
Her medium is acrylic. He has created his own style, which invites the spectator who sees in the sheep something peaceful, serene, a hyphen towards an inner peace. All the elements of his painting are symbolic, be it nature with those distant mountains, the big skies or the houses. The artist offers as a gift through his language a form of contemplation and gentleness. Michel is a painter of meditation and emotion, which makes us discover the sensitivity of the artist. The sheep is the access point, it looks at us, challenges us, invites us to walk in its universe and makes us discover the landscapes. It's a sweet moment of rest from everyday stress, a breath of fresh air.
You have to read Michel's paintings to understand them. The flowers are a bouquet that he offers us, his pictorial writing, full of sensitivity and accessibility, invites us to discover a poet who speaks through symbols. The artist does not paint what he sees, he paints what he feels...
Biography
In 1998 Michel Des Marais incorporated a form which he styled. He paints the elements of his painting by symbol, which he communicates to the spectators, because they are part of the artist's personal language. Mutton in the Des Marais style was born. Live model workshops influence his work. More freedom in the gesture of spontaneity guides his work and enriches his new series of the great forests of Quebec.
